The Montreal Gazette writes "Our country certainly doesn't need, as its global representative, an individual who is an uncaring, insensitive, conceited, boorish lout. "
"I'm sure that had Johnston been a heartthrob celebrity in the late '60s and early '70s, as Shatner was, he would not have shoved aside a small group of adoring fans, autograph books in hand, in front of the CFCF studios in a mad dash to his waiting limo. Not a smile or a glance, not even a thank you as he drove off, leaving us incredulous."
You know the stereotypes and public hate for William Shatner has really been pissing me off lately. Because it is all pure mythology. If Shatner wanted to avoid a crowd when visiting Montreal, isn't it his business? Why is he expected to come out like the Pope and bless everyone?
The criticisms and stereotypes of the "Shatner Acting Style" is also a big myth, it might have occurred in one episode of Star Trek where---he----talks----like---this. It simply isn't true. Also, while Shatner is known as a ladies man, and an 'asshole' by many people, it most often seems to be by people who expected something out of him, like he should have done this---or that---for them. Shatner is entitled to privacy and anything else the average person is entitled to. It is said Shatner has a big ego...but it is also evident that Shatner accepts humility all the time and makes fun of himself. For a guy who supposedly has the biggest ego in the world, he makes fun of himself a lot, and doesn't take it seriously. Honestly, I think people believe they know all about William Shatner from the roles he plays on television, but seriously, I cannot believe there are still people who honestly really do that.

What's the connection between Shatner and the world that makes people want to use Priceline?
Every so often we change the campaign. So we changed the campaign about four years ago to this Negotiator. And I approached the Negotiator character like an actor. I thought, "The Negotiator is insane." We've made him so nuts that he'll do anything to get a customer a bargain. And that seems to have resonated.

It always dazzled me how much people like to comment on any celebrity's private life. I can't even imagine how annoying it must be to have fans running after you every time you get out of the house. Shatner's job isn't to be a good guy or bad guy in his every day life. In fact, when he's not appearing on a TV screen, it's no one's business what he does.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, do you live in Montreal? If so, glad to see I'm not the only one in this city who hated that crap movie. :)
I bet Shatner's glad he wasn't in JarJar's Star Trek In Name Only film.
ReplyDeleteThe man is pushing 80!!!
People should just let him do whatever he wants to do in public or private without pestering him.
Sure, he's a celebrity, but enough already.
I can be a fan without jamming up his time for a personal moment with him. Not that I would turn down a chat with the Shat!
It is truly amazing the amount of hate that is thrown Shatners way all these years. Petty jealousy to say the least. They make it sound like he is the only person in Hollywood that has an ego, hard to work with etc. Funny how the only people that blast Shatner are the Trek people. All the other series is on never seem to say one bad thing about him. Not to mention that Shatner has NEVER bashed any of his fellow actors.
ReplyDeleteShatner is the man!
Shatner is the only person who should play Kirk. Chris Pine sucks ass.
