Well...it was so successful a movie, there's nothing but talk of another film, and it looks like there's nothing until after 2012...
Well...thanks for killing Star Trek ABRAMS. I would rather have had another season of ENTERPRISE...or another season of some sort of new Star Trek TV Series...now we're sitting around and there's nothing. Good franchise you have there, when you do nothing with it.
I guess I'll have to watch the new Shatner series...
Hey, guess what, somebody else agrees with me!

Hey there, I just wanted to thank you for this blog, heard about it from a You Tube comment and been searching for it ever since. Anyway, I - myself a vivid Star Trek XI basher, I guess my comments are all over those new Trekkie videos, and maybe Paramount have me on their most wanted list or something, hope so! Yes, I hate this movie, and I never stopped opposing it in any way possible and greatly thankful for your blog. The kind of our voices should be out there to be heard... All the best
ReplyDeleteWell...thanks. Why do you hate Star Trek XI? Everybody has their reasons, but I'd be curious to know yours specifically. You seem to be a big fan of Gene Roddenberry, and being that we have vaguely suggested here that it's not quite anything like his vision for Star Trek, I am willing to bet you have more to say on this specific subject.
ReplyDeleteemail Phil -->address to the right of the page, if you'd like to add your rant to the blog.
Hey Phil, thank you for welcoming me in your blog and your interest about my Trek background. Yes, you are right, I am a big admirer of Gene Roddenberry, he was a real progressive guy, had original and provoking ideas which added a lot of depth, positive quality to Star Trek. It might not have been always that way, I watched Star Trek TOS when I was young, so getting into Gene's ideas came in late, but I enjoyed Star Trek. It really opened my mind to lot of things, like I am 28 now, so I watched Trek in my teens and I am really fortunate I was exposed to it unlike this generation per say about this movie.
ReplyDeleteI watched Star Trek XI late, I did not see it while it was in the theaters because I got busy with other things, but I witnessed by far that it had "positive media response!" - which kinda puzzled me a lot while trying to analyze it later, since it did not live much to the hype. I felt there is something wrong with the movie, it failed to interest me, and it is the first trek movie - if you can call it even trek - which I could not even finish. It was completely dull, not cannon in every way, they basically lied about making it cannon, did not like a lot of the acting, the storyline was really shallow, the villain, the plot wasn't even interesting.. I couldn't relate to Kirk, Spock or anyone on the Enterprise. Not one of them could resemble even the slightest bit of the characters I grew up with... I had many issues with the characters, this was not Kirk, and Spock was really uninteresting. I just couldn't understand how anyone would review it positively, I had so many issues with this movie that I decided to burst it out in You Tube, I made several comments on how bad this movie is, and continues to do so... Because it really troubles me Phil, this movie "presents every bad thing that is in this world"... Basically it is not Star Trek, this is not KIRK, not Spock, it was a silly romance drama, with no deep storyline, it was boring, i couldn't relate to it, and I felt offended, that my franchise ended this way. When I have learned about Abrams background too, it was more offensive, that they chose such a guy to make Star Trek? It's not going to last Phil. The Franchise is in it's final years, they could have saved it really, but all they wanted was quick buck of money and Abrams was there to give it to them, they have no solid plots, messages (where are the subtlety, the great messages of star trek?.. In this shallow movie?.. None) The cracks will start to show up in their next movie if they ever gonna make it, and not all the lens flares of the world can hide the hideousness of their work, their faces too... and its sad.. They killed a franchise so easily... Sorry if I wrote too long!
Anyway Phil, I made friends while bashing Trek XI, It really put me finally at ease and belief in humanity itself, to know that many others felt the same and not all the media, paid reviews, Oscars, articles can hide the fact that this movie is crap... Truly a Star Wars movie in fake Trek dress. And it was never intended to a Trekkie audience, it was intended to those teenagers who know nothing about Trek, who would not notice all the mistakes in the movie nor care about it, and it succeeded in reaching it's goal. But, never it is a Trek movie. And I just can't live with myself without exposing it with all I can, to let the world know that not everybody approves of this thing, and Paramount really dig their own graves and killed Gene's work, they won't last much. Abrams, the writers, they're really a bunch of idiots, Beavis and Butt-head at the least, nothing creative can come out of them, and they can never add fuel to a dying fire. Star Trek is dying now, funny enough it wasn't dying with the Enterprise series, not even with Rick Berman's work. But, it is dying now. This is the last straw, Abrams with his lack of knowledge and stupidity cannot sell a dead thing, and those writers are worst than him, they have no vision, no intelligence. All they have is taking Gene's stuff, watching old episodes and twisting it again with that Time Travel bullshit. Work first time, second time?... It won't work every-time. This is not Lost, Abrams as hideous that show was, you cannot twist Star Trek this way and get away with the cracks for long, he is just a Star Wars idiot, brought everything that's stupid about that franchise and blended in Trek, which is the worst ingredient you can have, those two cannot match and should not. Anyway Phil, I could go on and on and on about this movie.. and It won't stop, It's just wrong. Please do ask anything, and I am really fortunate to be part of your blog, I am doing lots of work about Trek, Gene and since coming across this blog, will add Why Trek XI articles to my agenda. All the Best!

ReplyDeleteThis is something specific that I have been writing about here on this blog. The characters are different in the movie because they are like disturbingly vulgar caricatures of the original cast. What has been done, not only in terms of continuity, or 'the original spirit of Trek' is that we now see these characters re-molded into things they never were. This is the biggest issue really, that these characters are doing things really wrong in the Star Trek universe, not simply 'a different way' but act contrary to Star Trek's philosophy or spirit.
