So it ends. J.J.Abrams' claim to fame ends with a big smack across the face to the fans of LOST. People waited for a 'conclusion' which would tie up an inordinately complicated plot they hoped would answer all their questions. What they got was, 'we're not going to answer ANY questions, so fuck you.'
Alas, J.J. Abrams and his kind (the leftover producers of that show) are hucksters, and the plot of LOST which captivated fans for six years went down the "Light Hole" at the end.
What should we expect from J.J. Abrams and these people in the future?
How about: "Oh, that Star Trek movie we made a couple years ago? Oh, well that was just a dream that Doctor McCoy was having when he overdosed on tranquilizers on Rigel 3. So all is well. The Vulcans are still alive, Kirk is still in the Academy, and Checkov hasn't even applied yet."
Or maybe: "The sequel to Star Trek XI actually takes place BEFORE the last movie, but since they TIME TRAVEL, nothing in the first movie actually happens, and when Khan shows up, its actually before he becomes a dictator in the Eugenics Wars, but through Time Travel, he meets up with himself and the Enterprise Crew AFTER they abandon him on the Botany Bay but before the Eugenics wars...but they all realize they're dead at the end."
"STAR TREK XII - REBOOTED AGAIN"
ReplyDeleteThe film begins exactly where NuTrek did, with Spock's ship plunging into the Black Hole/Anomaly/Whatever it's meant to be.
As Spock's ship vanishes we pull back to reveal the bridge of the Enterprise E, where the TNG crew are watching on the viewscreen as Spock is transported to the alternate timeline.
Deactivating the viewscreen, Picard remarks that Ambassador Spock really seems to have fallen for it.
It transpires that the entire black hole/destruction of Romulus scenario was part of a trick to remove Ambassador Spock, now suffering from advanced Bendii's Syndrome and responsible for a lengthy catalogue of embarrasing and dangerous diplomatic blunders, from galactic politics with the minimum of fuss.
While Spock believes himself to be now living in an altered timeline, he is infact in a holodeck program where he will live out the rest of his days, the program having been based on his increasingly twisted delusions about his distant youth as confided to his personal physician in recent months.
With Spock out of the way the Enterprise warps off on another mission in the one and only genuine "Trek" universe...
Again. JJ's Star Trek sucks. Totally agree.
ReplyDeleteBut Lost was great, besides the fact that Abram's wasn't really involved in Lost since season 1. Make sure to do your homework.
